first series I worked with using toning and paper negatives extensively.
This was a real revelation for me for my work in photography as
it allowed me to begin to introduce some of the beauty and subtlety
I had found in printmaking into the photo process. Photography is
as powerful a medium as it is in large part because of its believeability.
Adding the marks is a way of playing with how the photo's reality
can be manipulated, becoming unreal while still seeming to be real--which
often leads to disturbing and troubling feelings for the viewer. |
